Hand-Dyed Indigo Cotton Twist Turban for Women — Long (II)

A soft turban made of second-hand cotton damask, hand-dyed with natural indigo. Darker blue edges flow into a lighter center, creating a one-of-a-kind pattern. The fabric is slightly thicker to the touch, so this turban is especially good for cooler days.

Thanks to the Twist construction with removable copper wires, you can drape it in under a minute. Wear it as full head coverage, a statement headband, a retro bow or wrapped around a bun. Once shaped, it holds its form.

A story from my studio

This is the result of my new fascination with dyeing fabric in natural indigo. It is an amazing dyeing process that asks for patience and focus, but in return lets me create extraordinary tonal transitions and experiment with finishing techniques that are completely new to me.

Dyeing fabric is the moment when I see the mystique of chemical reactions with my own eyes.

Natural indigo also fascinates me for its antimicrobial properties. Laboratory research keeps discovering new ways to use it, including for the skin.

In this piece I chose to darken the edges and leave the center lighter. The result is one unique pattern that cannot be reproduced exactly.
